Is it true what they say about thunder in winter?

The old wives tale says if it thunders in the winter you can expect snow within 10 days. So is it true? We'll see. It's thundering pretty loudly here right now. Snow in Louisiana is pretty unlikely, but then again it has snowed here the last 2 years in a row. (BOOM! Thunder sounds loudly behind me as I type this.)

Follow up: Apparently this old wives tale is busted. No snow this winter and one of the driest on record in our area. 

Life Is Good again

After spending the last week fighting a mysterious fever virus, a stomach bug, and then bronchitis we are finally on the mend. It was a rough Christmas for health this year but the blessing is that we didn't have to be anywhere and we have been able to stay home and just spend time together. We have played hours of video games, watched movies, read books, played with new toys and rested. Our wonderful church family has stepped in and brought various soup and groceries to help out while mom  & dad are trying to heal and take care of 2 boys with fever of 100. God bless each of you for all you have done and for the prayers and phone calls. We don't know what we would do without the support of our church family! Thank you!

I'd Rather See Jesus than Santa

I know it's not very popular to not celebrate Santa at Christmas. Many people don't understand why we don't participate in the whole dramatic charade of Santa, flying reindeer, etc. To that we just say, we found something more meaningful to celebrate. Christmas before Santa when our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was born. I saw this article in K! magazine by Roger Fields and just had to share...

"Why Jesus is Better than Santa"

Santa comes one day a year.
Jesus is with you every day all year long.

Santa has a few little elves.
Jesus has multitudes of strong angels.

Santa is fat.
Jesus is mighty.

Santa comes from the North Pole.
Jesus came from Heaven.

Santa lives in a little house far away.
Jesus will live inside of you.

Santa sits at the mall.
Jesus sits at the right hand of God.

Santa will eat your milk and cookies.
Jesus will give you daily bread.

Santa needs a sleigh to stay above the snow.
Jesus walks on water.

Santa has to slide down your chimney to get into your house.
Jesus can go through a closed door.

Nobody is sure whose family Santa came from.
Jesus is the Son of God.

Santa says, "You better not cry."
Jesus blesses those who mourn.

Santa has to ask your name when you visit him.
Jesus already knows your name.

Santa needs a list to remember anything.
Jesus never forgets what you say to Him.

Santa only listens to you at the mall.
Jesus will listen to you anytime, anywhere.

Santa gives stuff that wears out.
Jesus gives everlasting life.

Santa is a cute idea.
Jesus is...well, real.

Let the whole world hear!

My 5 year old son recently sang "Go Tell It on the Mountain" in the children's Christmas program at church. It resonated so deeply in my heart that we too often keep life's greatest joy quietly to ourselves. God came near to us when Jesus Christ was born. He was wrapped in the humility of humanity but was also fully God's Son, the Messiah, Immanuel, King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Celebrate this season by treasuring this in your heart and also by proclaiming it from the mountaintops until the whole world hears.

"When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Matthew 2:10-11
