Good Clean Fun

Every now and then we like to part from our preschool workbook and have a little hands-on learning. Today we played with bubbles. Who knew a sink full of soapy water and a few kitchen tools could be so much fun! I could say this was a lesson on density, colors, shapes, and elasticity but it was really more about just having silly fun together.

Can you stick your finger through a bubble without popping it?
Yes, you can!

LSU Baseball

We may turn out to be LSU fans yet. We enjoyed a beautiful evening at the LSU vs. Alabama baseball game Friday.

When I grow up....

When I was little I always said I wanted to be a ballerina when I grew up. I dreamed of having beautiful costumes and dancing on stage as gracefully as the Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker. Now, that makes me laugh because if you know me, you know I am not the most graceful or coordinated person. I trip over my own two feet. I forget what I was going to say in a matter of minutes with my terrible memory, and I get stage fright.

 

Now I am playing a new role - mom to boys! Two totally adorable little boys who like to play in the dirt and go exploring to catch lizards and look at snakes.  Boys who (like men) think bathroom sounds are the funniest thing on the planet. They like to play super heroes, war guys, space explorers, and go on endless imaginary adventures to save the planet.

Yes, for me, I think this might be the role of a lifetime. I have the opportunity to watch these boys grow up and train them in the ways of the Lord. I get to teach them, nurture them, care for them, provide for them. So whereas I've traded my tutus for aprons, I still feel like I'm in this magical ballet of cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, carpool line, preschool, and all the thousands of other things moms get to do. Like the picture to the left trying to achieve balance between the apple in one hand and the candy bar in the other. When I feel like none of it matters and under appreciated because I feel like there's no audience with standing ovation for a performance well done, I remember God is watching over me. I am performing for Him, and I want nothing more than to walk worthy of the Lord now (Colossians 1:9-10) so that one day I can hear Him say, "Well done my child".

Rest in faith my friends. Know that God cares about you and He is watching over you. Rest in Him.

Daddy Daughter Banquet 2012

This weekend was our church's 2nd annual Daddy/Daughter Banquet. May I just say, we really know how to throw a party. It was lovely. Our team of volunteer decorators, bakers, crafters, servers, cupcake frosters, photographers, grillers and dishwashers is amazing! It takes a lot of people to pull off what we did this weekend and our children's ministry team really stepped it up this weekend. THANK YOU!!!!!

Thank you to Rebecca & Tracy who came over to my house with mixers in hand and joyfully baked 650+ cupcakes in 7.5 hours! It was a lot but I really did enjoy it. Yall are so fun.

Yes, over 650 cupcakes in four flavors - Vanilla, Oreo, Chocolate Mint, and Chocolate Bacon.

 Over 200 pieces of chicken breast grilled on one huge BBQ pit by our handy grill masters and kitchen crew Gary, Tommy, and Buddy.

And one strange cook who looks like Julia Childs after a long day in the kitchen.  

And two sweet boys who were so patient and helpful with the taste testing. 

And a big thank you to the team of volunteers who planned, prepared and pulled off turning a stinky gym into this amazing banquet hall. It looked amazing and to see the faces of those little girls as they arrived and looked around in wonder, I hope you know your efforts were worth it. 

Finally, to my husband Stanley, the most amazing Children's Pastor I know, I love you. Your love for children and families and passion for telling them about Christ inspires me to want to serve more. It is an honor to serve in ministry along side you. Thank you for all you do.

Gone Swampin'

While many in our area were out collecting more beads and candy at the parades we decided to spend our Mardi Gras break doing something as a family we've never done before. We went on a swamp tour. I saw a church sign recently that said "Bloom where you are planted." Well, after almost 4 years here I can't believe we haven't done this before. It was actually quite interesting.

We found Cajun Country Swamp Tours on the Internet and gave them a call. Shawn was our tour guide. He was so nice. Much like a real live Kratt brother from PBS the way he loves the environment and seeks to protect the wildlife there. I learned so much from his talk about the swamp environment.

We saw the swamp teeming with wildlife. Many kinds of birds....

We got so close to them our youngest son said, "Mom can I touch them?" To which everyone replied, "NO! Keep ya hands in da boat!" They were not scared at all. I think they thought it was like a Disney ride. Thankfully, all was calm in nature today and everyone stayed safe. It was a great trip and the boys really enjoyed it. It was a fun surprise for our day off.
